Will Repellents Remove Groundhogs from Sheds or Porches?
Once a groundhog goes under your shed or porch, it is going to cause problems for you. The groundhog has a safe place to hide and will use that to its advantage.
With the damage that groundhogs can do, you do not want to let it stay for too long. You want it gone as soon as possible.
Most people will turn their attention to repellents in this case. Repellents make big promises, giving people hands off methods of pest removal, but can you trust them?
Though repellents seem like a great idea, that is not the case in practice. They are unlikely to give you the results that you want and expect and need.
Using Repellents
Repellents come in various forms. Visual, auditory, and odor repellents all make the same promises: the moment the groundhog faces it, it is going to run away.
Logically, it makes sense. Flood lights, high pitched noises, and bad odors should make the groundhog unhappy. They should make the groundhog want to evacuate immediately in search of something pleasant.
Rarely, though, do these work as well as intended. Certain types of repellents can help somewhat in scaring the groundhog, but not reliably. They are not going to make the groundhog leave your property, either, unless paired with more effective solutions.
You cannot rely on repellents as a way to remove or control groundhogs. They are not going to show the results that you would expect or want, or that they promise.
Removing the Groundhogs
Certain repellents may help somewhat, at least at first, but you will continue to deal with groundhog problems. Instead of allowing them to be a pain, find a better solution.
With traps, it does not matter where the groundhog is, you can remove them. The groundhog has to leave from under the shed or porch at some point, and the trap will get them when they do.
Kill and live traps are one of the most popular for this reason. Place it where the groundhog is certain to appear and let it do its work. Traps designed for groundhogs will make this easy for you.
Repellents are not going to work with groundhogs, certainly not when groundhogs have a safe and secure place to hide. With other, better options on the market, you have ways of removing them without wasting your time or causing more problems.
